A Watched Pot Never Boils

Of course it does! It just seems to take forever.

“Don’t just stand there Nicholas, waiting for something to happen. Don’t you know A Watched Pot Never Boils?”

That idiom was one of my Aunt’s favorite phrases.

The word patience – is a tricky one:

1. the quality of being patient, as the bearing of provocation, annoyance, misfortune, or pain, without complaint, loss of temper, irritation, or the like.
2. an ability or willingness to suppress restlessness or annoyance when confronted with delay.

Understanding it is easy. Living it is hard.

Today is the first time in years I’ve had time to cook and wait for Oatmeal – not the “instant” kind, but the the one where you have to wait….and wait….the good ol’ “5-minutes-and-it’s-ready” kind!

So, as I plan the next steps of a career shift – I am fully aware of the need to stay proactive, breathe and not constantly watch my inbox, “a watched pot never boils.”

But when it’s finally “ready” I’m sure it will taste as good as I remember.

Knowing that – is easy. Living it, being patient, is the hard part.
